Terms of Use

This is a translation for reference. If it differs from the Spanish version, the Spanish version prevails.

Legible is a service of Base UI LLC, located at 30 N Gould St, Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, Estados Unidos. It converts files you upload (PDFs, scanned books, and comics) into files to read on an e-reader. By creating an account or using the service, you accept these terms.

What you upload is your responsibility

Legible is a conversion tool, like a program installed on your computer. It does not sell, lend, or share books, and does not review the contents of the files.

You may only upload files you have the right to use: those you wrote yourself, those you bought or were given for your personal use (for example, course materials), those in the public domain, or those with a license that allows it. Uploading a file is a declaration that you have that right.

If you upload something without having the right to do so, the infringement and its consequences are yours, not Base UI LLC's. You agree to hold Base UI LLC harmless from any claim arising from any file you have uploaded.

What is not allowed

• Converting material to distribute, sell, or publish it without the permission of the rights holder.
• Opening multiple accounts, using disposable emails, VPNs or other means to take advantage of free offerings more than once.
• Using programs to send files in bulk or attempt to access other people's accounts.
• Uploading files with passwords or copy protection, or attempting to bypass those protections.

If we detect any of these uses, or receive a legitimate claim from the rights holder of a file, we may suspend the account without prior notice. A suspension for infringement does not entitle you to a refund.

Your library

The converted book remains in your library, along with the file you uploaded, so you can reassemble it (another Kindle, the index, comic or book): the ones you downloaded are kept until you delete them or close your account; the ones you haven't downloaded are deleted after 24 hours. If you convert without logging into your account, the book is deleted after 24 hours.

Your library is private: only you can see it, it has no sharing links, and we do not use it for anything other than storing your books. Each book is stored separately for each person, even if someone else uploaded the same file.

What we do keep for one year is a record of each upload: the account, IP address, date, file name, and its fingerprint (a code that identifies it without storing its content). This is used to respond to anyone who claims about a file and to authorities who request it with a valid order.

Copyright claims

We handle claims according to United States copyright law (DMCA) and the laws of each country. If a valid claim targets one of your books, we remove it from your library and notify you by email, including how to respond if you believe it is an error. We close accounts that accumulate repeated claims. How to make a claim, how to respond, and when an account is closed are explained at Copyright.

The unlimited plan

Without the plan, you can convert up to 5 files (failed conversions do not count, and deleting a file does not restore the conversion) and download the first 3. To convert or download more, you need the unlimited plan, which costs 5 USD por mes and is billed monthly in advance by card via Stripe. It renews automatically until you cancel; cancellation is done from your account, at any time, and takes effect at the end of the already paid month. The price may change with prior email notice. If you do not want the subscription, you can also pay 1 USD one time for one additional conversion and download.

"Unlimited" is for personal use: to prevent abuse, there is a daily conversion limit that a person cannot reach by reading.

The service as-is

We do our best to ensure each conversion works well, but some files cannot be converted perfectly (for example, formulas inside a scan). That's why you can preview the result before downloading. The service is offered as-is and, to the extent permitted by law, Base UI LLC's liability is limited to what you paid in the last three months.
