How to Convert CBZ Files for Kindle Scribe: Step-by-Step Guide

18/10/2026

If you want to read CBZ comics on your Kindle Scribe, you need to convert them to a compatible format. The Kindle Scribe does not open CBZ or CBR files directly, but you can easily convert them to AZW3 or PDF for the best reading experience. Here’s how to do it step by step, including options for adjusting size and page order.

What File Types Does Kindle Scribe Support?

The Kindle Scribe supports AZW3 (the native Kindle format), EPUB (sent through Send to Kindle), and PDF. CBZ and CBR are not supported directly, so comics and manga must be converted to AZW3 or PDF before transferring to the device. AZW3 and PDF both work well for comics on Scribe.

How to Convert CBZ for Kindle Scribe

  1. Pick a Conversion Tool: You can use a web app like Legible. Legible lets you upload CBZ, CBR, CB7, ZIP, or PDF comics and prepares them for Kindle models, including the Scribe. No installation is required—just drag and drop your file in the browser.
  2. Upload Your CBZ File: On the Legible home page, select and upload your comic file. The app processes the comic, cropping margins, splitting double pages, and adjusting the page order. Manga reading order (right to left) is supported if your comic uses it.
  3. Preview Your Comic: Legible displays a Kindle Scribe mockup, showing your comic page by page. This lets you check the order and appearance. You can review everything before downloading.
  4. Download the File: Legible offers your comic in AZW3 (for USB transfer), EPUB (for Send to Kindle), or PDF. For comics, AZW3 or PDF is usually best for the Scribe. The output is sized for the Scribe’s resolution and grayscale display.
  5. Transfer to Kindle Scribe:
    • By USB: Connect your Scribe to your computer. Copy the AZW3 or PDF file to the "documents" folder. The comic will appear in your library under “Documents.”
    • By Internet (Send to Kindle): If you choose EPUB or PDF, you can use Amazon’s Send to Kindle service. AZW3 cannot be sent this way—use USB for AZW3.

Other Tools for Comic Conversion

Other options include Kindle Comic Converter (KCC) and Calibre. KCC is made for comics and manga. Calibre is free and open source, and is excellent for organizing your ebook library. If you want a browser-based, direct approach, Legible is tailored for Kindle models and requires no installation.
